Life Roles Worksheet

My Current Life Roles

Life Role What this role means to me Examples in my life
Student Being a student to me means preparing for my future and learning I am currently a student at high school and i am enrolled in a dual credit
Family This role means to me providing love + support to my family and loved ones I am a sister, daughter, grand daughter, niece, and a soon to be aunt
Friend This role means to me providing support as while as being trust worthy I am friends with many people, such as rory, tobi, charlotte, and my brother robbie
Worker/Volunteer This role means helping out others and contributing when i can I volunteer at my school sometimes for dances and helping around the school
Citizen/Community Member Being a community member means respecting and contributing to my community I wave to my neighbour almost everyday and im always nice to both people i know and people who i dont know that are apart of my community
Consumer Being a consumer means making choices about how and what i spend my money on I buy a coke from the store almost every day and every month or two i buy glue from the dollar store or walmart
Leisure Participant Being a leisure participant exploring my hobbies more and having fun I have many different hobbies that i like exploring such as art, coding (as you can see), crocheting, and playing games
Lifelong Learner Being a lifelong learner means to me, being curious and open to learning and actually seeking it out I learn something new almost every single day and I actively seek out new knowledge

1. Which life role do you enjoy the most? Why?
I think my favourite role is being a friend. I love being supportive and having fun with my friends a lot. A lot of my favourite memories come from my friends and i enjoy being a good friend

2. Which life role is the most challenging for you? Why?
The role i find the most challenging is being a community member, this is hard for me because I don't really leave my house so i dont really interact with my community much

3. How do you balance your different roles?
I'm not very good at balancing the different roles in my life, I do try but it's hard to find a good balance. If I'm being a good friend and hanging out with my friends alot i find it hard to interact with my family because I'm so exhausted. And being a student is hard sometimes because being a leisure participant sometimes gets in the way, because instead of doing school work I just want to work on my hobbies.

4. What new roles do you think you’ll take on in the future?
I think I will acquire a lot of new roles as I grow older, for example maybe I will get married and become a wife to another woman or what if I have children and become a mother. I know soon i will become an aunt because my sister is pregnant

How Life roles help shape who I am and who I am becoming

Being a friend has taught me so many important things. One of the most important things I learned from being a friend is empathy and communication. From being a friend I have learned how to actively listen to others as well as understanding different perspectives. Being friends with many different people has made me much more open minded. This has all shaped me into a much better person who is much more compassionate and understanding when it comes to people, this has also made me much better at dealing with social situations. Moving forward I want to continue to build meaningful relationships with friends that will push me to learn and grow as a person

Reflection #1

“Stop waiting for Friday. For Summer. To fall in love. To lose weight. For the perfect job. For a holiday. For life.. Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it, and make the most of the moment you’re in now.”

what?

this quote encorages people to stop waiting for thier own happiness and start living in the now. the quote starts off by listing things that people wait for such a weekends, success, love, and the "better" life. it talks about how happiness wont happen in the future if you dont try in the present, happiness doesnt just come to you, you have to work for it in the present for it to happen in the future. for me this quote reminds me of my own experiences with anxiety. my anxiety often makes me stress over tiny things, repeat and replay things in my head over and over, and makes me worry about my future. because of this i often wait alot, to feel better, more confident, and in control over things and my thoughts. this has caused me to miss out on a large amount of experiences, opportunities, and being able to enjoy things to thier fullest extent

so what

Reflecting on this quote made me realise just how much I let my anxiety influence my daily life. It made me realise that I often put my experiences and opportunities either on hold or just cancel entirely because I'm waiting to feel less anxious and a moment where I'm not anxious rarely comes. I have learned from this quote that the perfect moment has been keeping me stuck, unable to grow from my anxiety and that the real growth comes from pushing myself out of my comfort zone, even if I'm only taking small steps at a time. My life isn't just put on pause because of my anxiety, I still have to move forward even if I'm not fully prepared. This quote also reminded me of something very important, that happiness is something we create, it's not just something that appears when everything is perfect and ideal

now what

moving forward, I want to try to start to work on being more in the present even if I'm experiencing lots of anxiety and uncertainty at the moment. I want to try and avoid just shutting down and letting anxiety take over, I want to try to use simple strategies that I can use and that I will remember in the moment. For example taking deep breaths and paying attention to my surroundings may help me a lot in the moment and are very easy to remember. I want to start pushing myself out of my comfort zone and not letting my anxiety take over and dictate what I do, I will start pushing myself to do things even if they make me anxious, for example pushing myself to try new things like foods I'm not used to, participating in class, and writing on the discussion posts for my online classes, even if these things make me anxious I'm still going to push through. I would also like to try and learn more healthy and effective ways for helping maintain and control my anxiety, like start challenging my negative and stressful thoughts by journaling and reflecting and using certain grounding techniques in very stressful moments. When I start to notice myself waiting for when I feel “right” I will remind myself of this quote and how waiting wont help me only pushing forward will, and if i want to make the most out of every opportunity and experience i have to stop letting anxiety control me.
